Key Qur'anic Verses
with brief commentary

Dr. Mohammad Omar Farooq

The entire Qur'an has been revealed by our Benevolent Rabb (our loving Creator, Sustainer, Nourisher and Evolver) for the guidance of humanity. Thus, for the complete need of humanity, there is the complete Qur'an. Here I am identifying a few Qur'anic verses that are among broad or key principles for molding our lives. While acknowledging or affirming our faith in the entirety of the divine revelation is an integral part of our Islamic identity and can be done intellectually or spiritually at one stroke, adaptation of our life at various levels to the life-giving guidance of our Creator is a gradual process. Thus, some companions of the Prophet (s) used to take one verse at a time and try to assimilate the teaching and significance of that verse in their lives. Selection of these verses here does not belittle or ignore other verses in the Qur'an. I look at it this way. If I can incorporate one of these verses listed here into my life, I have taken one step forward. If I can incorporate ten such verses, I will be ten steps ahead. More importantly, the verses that I have chosen are of broad significance. One cannot incorporate these verses in their lives without positively touching the lives of others.
